 HOW TO REFERENCE A VOLUME OF CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS

 

This page provides advice on how to reference a volume of conference proceedings, published in print or electronically.

In-text citation

 

Write the editor's or editors' surname/s followed by the year of publication.

 

Example
The papers presented at this conference were published in a collected volume (Tokay 2004).

 

Reference

 

A. Printed conference proceedings


Write the editor’s or editors’ surname(s) and initial(s), followed by ‘ed.’ (for a single editor) or 'eds.' (for multiple editors) in brackets, then the year of publication. Put the title of the proceedings in italics, followed by the title of the conference within single quotation marks followed by a full stop. Write ‘held’ and then give the full date of the conference then write ‘at’ and give the place (university, town or city) where the conference was held.Finally, write the place of publication followed by a colon then the publisher.

Tokay, D. (ed.) (2004) Translation as a Metaphor in Academic Writing. ‘Conference on International Writing Centres’. held 3-5 April

2003 at Ankara University. Istanbul: Sabanci University Press

 

B. Electronic conference proceedings

 

Write the editor's or editors' surname(s) and initial(s) followed by ‘ed.’ (for a single editor) or 'eds.' (for multiple editors) in brackets, then the year of publication. If no editor/s are available, write the name of website or organisation instead. Write the title of the conference proceedings in italics followed by a comma, then (if available) the title of the conference within single quotation marks followed by a full stop. Write ‘held’ and then give the full date of the conference, then write ‘at’ followed by the place (university/town/city) where the conference was held. Finally, write [online] then 'available from' followed by the URL and the date you have accessed the document, in square brackets.
