HOW TO REFERENCE A BOOK

In-text citation

 

  • Provide the author’s surname and the date.

 

  • Whenever you make reference to a specific page in your source,  you should also include the page number/s preceded by a colon.

 

Examples

Cottrell (2014: 20) provides an overview of the main stages in conducting research projects.

 

The process of conducting a research project includes several stages (Cottrell 2014: 20).

 

Reference

 

  • Give the author’s surname and initials, then the year in brackets, then the title in italics followed by a full stop. Finally, give the place of publication followed by a colon, then the name of the publisher.

 

Example

Cottrell, S. (2014) Dissertations and Project Reports. A Step

by Step Guide. Houndmills: Palgrave Macmillan
